Programs and Outreach
AMWA works with a number of programs and outreach events in order to support the advancement of women in medicine and to improve women's health.
Mentoring
Medical students are matched up with women physicians for an extending mentoring experience. The year starts off with a afternoon tea and a dinner and concludes with a spring get-together. Throughout the year, students have a chance to shadow their mentors a get advice about being a woman physician. To request a mentor, or to volunteer to be an AMWA mentor, contact Laura Rosenbloom (l-rosenbloom@nuamwa.org).

Vagina Monologues
Each February, AMWA and the Women's Coalition at NU Law co-sponsor a production of Eve Ensler's “The Vagina Monologues.” This production is part of our month-long outreach series focusing on awareness of violence and abuse against women. Thought provoking, and at times humorous, the collection of monologues is based on a series of interviews regarding this essential part of being a woman. Actors for the production are volunteers from the medical and law schools, and all proceeds are donated to charity. Anyone interested in producing, directing, or acting in the 2010 Vagina Monolouges should contact Maya Ragavan (m-ragavan@nuamwa.org) for more information.

Cardiology Summer Academy
The Cardiology Summer Academy is a week long program run by Dr. Martha Gulati. This Academy introduces students from Young Women’s Leadership Charter School Science (same high school as the Oncofertility Saturday Academy) to cardiology as a medical specialty, as well as heart healthy living. The week consists of lectures, a pig heart dissection, exercise sessions, and rotations through a couple of cardiology specialties. AMWA members not only serve as mentors for the girls but also help develop the curriculum and act as teaching aides throughout the week. For more information, contact Sarah Rodriguez (s-rodriguez@nuamwa.org).
